Furniture work -
Manufacture of furniture - Manufacture of furniture from pallets
Furniture made with hands, heart, and a few splinters
My name is John Smith. I'm 71 years old, I drink my tea strong, and I believe that good furniture should creak a little — not because it’s weak, but because it remembers.
I’ve spent most of my life surrounded by sawdust, offcuts, bent nails, and ideas that didn’t always make sense until they were made real. I started as a carpenter’s apprentice when trousers were higher and prices were lower. These days, I work mostly alone, in a quiet workshop that smells of linseed oil, old wood, and yesterday’s coffee.
I make furniture from pallets, rattan, and whatever else the world gives me. I see beauty in things people throw away. A weathered pallet? That’s a future garden bench. A scratched piece of rattan? Give me an afternoon and a podcast, and I’ll turn it into a rocking chair that your cat will fight you for.
Some people say, “Why bother with old materials?” And I say, “Why not?”
Wood that has already lived has stories. My job is to translate them into tables, chairs, shelves, loungers, and once — not kidding — a rattan throne for a man who claimed to be a local king. (He paid in jam. Long story.)
What I Make
I specialize in:
Every piece is handmade, slightly imperfect, and built to be used, not just looked at. I don’t own a CNC machine. I sand by hand, curse by instinct, and finish with care.
My Philosophy
I don’t compete with IKEA. I’m not fast, I’m not cheap — but I am real.
I believe in working slowly. In measuring twice, and then forgetting where I put the pencil. I believe furniture should have personality. Corners should be smooth, joints should be tight, and no two pieces should be exactly alike — just like people.
I don’t sell products. I build companions for your home.
Sometimes people ask me, “John, why are you still working?”
And I say, “Because retirement is boring unless your hands are dirty.”
Let’s Work Together
If you need something honest, simple, and full of character — whether it’s a coffee table made from a shipping pallet, or a chair woven from rattan while I listen to old jazz — I’d be happy to help. I can’t promise perfection, but I promise soul.
Reach out if you’d like to talk, collaborate, or just hear about the time I accidentally glued my sleeve to a chair leg. (Spoiler: the chair won.)
